Homemade Solar Panels – A Great Way to Save Energy

There is a great deal of interest in harnessing solar energy these days. With electricity prices on the rise and natural resources being depleted, it is completely understandable why someone would wish to switch from standard electricity to solar power. People who do switch to solar energy end up saving a substantial amount of money on their bills and constructing solar panels is not as complicated a task as most people would believe. In fact, DIY solar panel kits have reached new high levels of popularity- and with good reason. Electricity is extremely expensive, and the costs are believed to continue rising in the near future. Therefore solar power is a very efficient alternative to traditional means of harvesting electricity.

Building a DIY solar panel kit isn’t nearly as difficult as most people would believe. Kits can either be purchased or put together with items that are easily obtainable from stores or online. Some people can even find the materials needed in their own homes and garages- that’s how easy DIY solar panel kits are to put together. Such kits will cost a few hundred dollars, which most people find to be much easier to afford than their monthly power bills. In addition, these kits can be created from various different equipment, it all depends on what an individual wishes to spend on the equipment, and how they wish to customize the panels. People do not have to be constriction workers or architects to create DIY solar panels, so long as they are willing to learn how to build simple objects.

Successful completion of a DIY solar panel kit require very little. A guide is a given necessity, and it can be helpful to obtain a guide. Most guides can be purchased for very little, and some even offer online resources in case more information is required. In addition to this, there are countless other resources that are available on online forums and in hardware stores. There is a lot of time required when it comes to constructing a DIY solar panel cell, but time and energy is not much of an investment compared to the savings that an individual will have once they have completed their solar energy project.

There are various other benefits that come with using a DIY solar panel kit. Among these are the knowledge that an individual is doing a part in saving the environment. It is also possible for people to receive tax breaks and possibly even be paid for using solar energy. The only complications that may arise when creating a DIY solar power kit include deciding on what materials to use and where the panels will be placed. Solar panels can be large enough to cover a person’s roof, small enough to provide solar power for an RV, or any size in between. Most DIY solar panel kits are able of producing enough electricity to power an entire house for several hours or days, depending on how many electronic devices that they may have.

All You Ever Wanted To Know About Home Solar Power Systems!

It is almost free, it is environmentally friendly and it is adopted by many households across the globe – home solar power system is on a slow but steady path to replacing energy based on fossil fuels. Our planet absorbs heat and light from the sun’s energy and in fact according to MIT the amount of this energy absorbed by earth in an hour far exceeds what the world collectively used in 2002! Why not harness this energy for our daily energy consumption then?

The advantages of home solar power systems

There are several advantages of the solar power system and using any other energy source seems like a poor choice in comparison. It does make you wonder why we don’t see home solar power systems so commonly around us. Our planet is facing rapidly changing climates and the atmosphere couldn’t have been more polluted. To add to this, fossil fuels are too expensive for extensive use. Perhaps the greatest advantage of these solar power systems is that there is no company or government controlling the production of solar energy. As long as the sun is out, well, it is all yours!

Some countries or states even offer tax exemptions for those who use home solar power systems. This makes them even more affordable.

Is a home solar power system the right thing for your home?

With almost a 40% reduction in solar power system rates over the last 2 to 3 years, it is definitely a great option to get one for your home. Before you plan to begin using solar power, you need to do an energy audit in your home. If you are an ideal candidate for a solar panel, then you should have already begun following most of these at home:

Begin using CFL light bulbs

Changed your appliances to energy star ones

Begin the use of power strips that turn off when electricity is not used

Energy is not allowed to escape through proper insulation on doors and windows

Did you check your roof?

In order to get the best out of your home solar power system, your roof must be south facing. If you instead have an east-west roof but have a good exposure, it should be good too. A ground mounted solar power system would be the best in case of non-exposure. The only point to remember is that the wherever you place your system, there shouldn’t be shade at any time.

Where can you use the energy generated?

Here are some common areas where you can use the energy generated from these home solar power systems:
Lighting – since most systems offer power storage, you can use the energy for lighting your house even at night.
Cooking – use this energy to bake, boil or roast. It may be a bit time consuming but definitely healthy and less expensive.
Heating – imagine the amount of money you will save when you do not use gas or electricity anymore to heat up your house during winters!

Harvest The Sun In Your Backyard With DIY Solar Power

Got some sun in your backyard? Why not make use of this clean and virtually free energy source through a DIY solar energy project? All you require is a few solar panels for conversion of this solar energy into electricity for use in your home. The continual rise in energy costs and then the scarcity of it has undoubtedly made solar energy quite popular with millions across the globe!

When you think of DIY solar power, it means that you build your own solar panels with the aid of either raw materials or a DIY solar energy kit. Do not get intimidated with how complex a solar panel looks; when you get down to it with proper instructions, it is quite easy. Once you have your solar panel, the next step is to create a solar generator. This is where the solar energy harnessed by the panel gets converted into power for use in electrical appliances in your home. With some time, patience and skill, you can actually power a number of devices; even your whole house; with solar power.

Can you even imagine the amount of money this will save you in terms of utility bills?

The only problem to this very appealing option is that despite tax exemptions and grants in most countries for using solar power, the cost for obtaining solar energy can be huge. That is why DIY solar power came into existence, allowing the common man to make his own solar panel and finally break the endless and expensive dependence on any electrical company.

If the thought of a DIY scares you no end, at least check your favorite search engine before you give up on it. One click of the mouse and you will find millions of pages and satisfied users happy to share their knowledge and expertise with you. There are step- by-step guides and instructions manuals available for free that make a DIY solar power project as simple as A B C!

If you knew this already, start with determining your household solar energy needs. In the beginning aim to combine solar power with traditional grid electricity and then slowly with time and skill get off the grid completely. There are other factors to consider as well including the location of your property, size of the solar panels you use and how much sun you get during the year (or that part of the year). Usually, a 3 bedroom house (approximately 140 sq mt) would require 10,000 KWh of energy on an annual basis.

In order to be more specific, draw a list of all your appliances and work out the energy consumption there. Multiply this figure with the number of hours you generally use your devices to arrive at your home’s energy consumption. Depending on this now, the size of your DIY solar energy panels or kit can be determined.

DIY solar power is a great way to give back some of that love to Mother Nature. They are economical, easy to build and offer you another area for a family activity!

A Complete Guide For You To Build Solar Panels

The benefits of learning how to build solar panels are multifold. Not only are you saving money but you are also becoming more self sufficient as a household and doing your bit to save the earth. Perhaps the most attractive advantage of learning how to build solar panel for most families is that they are less dependent on utility companies.

In the past, solar panels were expensive and even inefficient and that was probably why there weren’t many takers. However, today’s solar panels are cheaper, more efficient and easier to make on your own. The renewable energy that solar panels use is a great way to reduce that ‘carbon print’ we leave on this Earth. Involve your family when you begin to build solar panels and the sense of accomplishment will probably make it a habit with your kids as they grow up!

Why build solar panels?

By now we know that solar panels offer you a cost effective method to depend lesser on a utility company. Your energy costs decrease dramatically over a year after you have installed your solar panels. But why build a solar panel and not get it done professionally? Well, it is simply the cost factor. Where you can build a solar panel within about $200 to $300, a professional set up will set you back by at least $20,000! I guess this is reason enough to get online to the thousands of tutorials and step-by-step guides that help you to build solar panels.

How many solar panels should you build?

Before you figure out how to build solar panels, it is essential to know how many will serve the purpose. Remember that the bigger the solar cells you use in your panel, the more power will be produced. However, they do tend to become large and heavy. Check for ease of installation as well as the energy requirements of your property.

Materials Required

You can either get these materials from your local hardware store or even on the internet. What you need is solar cells, paint, wires, wire cutter, a saw, rosin flux pen, solder and soldering iron, volt meter, screwdriver, silicon caulk and caulking gun, plexiglass and cutter, volt meter, a drill and UV ray protective varnish.

How to build solar panel

The entire process to build a solar panel is quite exhaustive to be covered here, but here is what you need to do in a nutshell. You need to construct a frame with wood and plexiglass where you can wire together solar panels. The sun’s energy will be collected here and you can store it in some form of rechargeable battery. You require a device to convert this into 120 volt power that can be directed to power your devices.

You will require several of these solar panels to be completely free of using traditional electricity. It is not surprising to see many across the world who started with learning how to build solar panels as back up to the electric company – today they use solar power as the main source of power and the electric company as a back up!

With the number of people wishing to become environmentally conscious these days, it is of little surprise that solar power systems are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to traditional electric power. In addition to saving money, solar power system utilize sunlight to generate energy, which means that there are absolutely no detrimental emissions and that there are no non-renewable resources being depleted. This in turn guarantees that no poisonous chemicals are released into the atmosphere, which in turn, is beneficial for the ecosystem.

When an individual considers installing a solar power system, there are a few things that must be taken into consideration. The first among these factors is location. Though it may not be possible for someone to know what side of the equatorial divide they reside on, it is important to know what side of the home to place solar power panels on. These panels should be facing solar south, which is different from what most people associate as south- solar south is along the path of the sun. However it is possible to place the panels at a thirty-degree angle from magnetic south.

Should a tree or building be shading the south-facing areas of a house, it can be quite difficult for a solar power system to function properly. Nevertheless, some solar power systems can produce power even when there is little light. It is possible to use a solar power system in northern climates such as Alaska, though such systems wll not produce very much power. More temperate regions are ideal for someone who wishes to switch to solar power.

A solar power system is able to provide power for appliances, heaters, air conditioners, swimming pools and anything that requires electricity to work. Depending on the kind of solar power system that an individual purchases, they may be eligible to receive money back from the electrical company. Most people or businesses that switch to solar power systems are able to receive tax breaks for doing so, which many people find to be an unexpected plus. There are many other benefits that people will discover when they switch from traditional power as well.

People do not have to be simply environmentally conscious to switch to solar power. If someone wishes to save a large amount of money on their electric bill, they will be pleasantly surprised by switching. There are several options that they can choose from when deciding to use a solar power system- they can use panels or grids, and they can supplement their solar power system with wind power if they desire to do so. Solar power is something that cannot be depleted in the near future, unlike traditional electricity. After all, someone cannot drain the sun of its power.

When shopping for a solar power system, it is important to compare the benefits of different systems before committing to buy. This is simply to ensure that an individual purchases a system that will best fit their needs and budget. It does not have to be extremely costly to switch to a solar power system, nor is it necessarily difficult. All it takes is a desire to switch, and a willingness to look for the system that will best fit their needs.

DIY Solar Panels – Simple and unlimited way of getting electricity

Electricity is the basic requirement to live but with the rising costs of electricity, people are looking for alternative ways and there are few alternative ways to produce electricity and solar panels are the most effective one. In this current situation, DIY solar panels have become highly popular because of its cost effectiveness. It is really a great way to produce high amount of electricity with the very cost effective way. The independence from huge electric bills during these critical economic times is the major attraction for opting it. However, installing a professional solar energy system is really expensive and most of the people are unable to afford it. But DIY solar panel kits are the best way to install solar energy within your budget. It allows you to build your own solar power system only for $250.

This is really amazing. A $250 investment can permanently save you from the sky touching electricity bills and it is completely a source of unlimited energy. If you cut the use of electricity for space heating, water heating and cooking then you can easily operate your house from the solar energy.

DIY solar panels produce free power from sun by transforming sunlight to electricity and there are no moving parts, emissions and zero maintenance. Buying solar panel kits is the best investment that not only saves your bank balance but it also increases your property value. It is the most environ friendly way to get electricity.

There are mainly two types of solar panels and they are commercially made and homemade solar panels. Homemade solar panels are much cheaper and DYE is one of the best solar panel kits among them. So now you can understand the basic advantage of using DYE solar panels.

There are both online and shops from where you can purchase it but price may vary on the basis of manufacturer and voltage wise. But if you buy a complete DYE solar panel kits then you can get everything in one package. There are many DYE manufacturers are available on the market so it is really important to do some researches in order the buy the best one. If you purchase a wrong kit then you won’t work and it will be completely worthless for you. First, you should gather some knowledge about solar energy system so that you can differentiate the best one from others.

DIY solar panels Ebooks and online resources are the best way to gather information. There are many online books and websites where you can get the detailed overview about it. DYE solar panel kits help you to create a solar panel system yourself.

Generally for a normal home, three panels are sufficient to operate all the electronic devices in the home but it totally depends on the current consumption and the sun light. The online e books will help you calculate the right voltage you need and how many cells are required for it.

As the demand for fossil fuel increases day by day, the prices are going to reach sky high because we are at the verge of diminishing our hydrocarbon supplies from earth. Scientists today are in search of alternative energy resource and solar energy is the best option to use strategically and effectively to make a whole lot of difference in the world.
As per the latest research it has been observed that solar energy obtained from solar cells has the maximum rate of conversion into electricity thus, focusing on using the source at its optimum best. As more and more green energy companies are coming into the market, the use of solar power is no longer a far fetched dream. The initial cost of solar panel is substantially high, but once you invest intelligently on a solar power system, the electrical energy becomes nearly free. This in turn reimburses your investment over time, plus it is totally clean and sustainable.

Like every other energy resource, solar energy too has some shortcomings. The most important of all being the lack of constant sun rays on some parts of the earth. The scientists today are still experimenting with various elements to reserve solar energy over a large span of time, even during nights or some very cloudy days.

While installing a solar power system, it is important to create a plan wherein you need to decide the amount of energy used on an average in your household. The basic plan would consist of the number of major appliances run by solar energy; they can vary from water heaters, radiators, air conditioner, etc. There are many other portable solar devices used for specific purposes like solar cookers, solar ovens, etc. but these again have the drawback of working only during daylight, hence, electricity still needs to be generated to run a home during the night time and when the source of solar power is lowest like during the winters and rainy seasons.

If solar power systems are used on a large scale many of the problems can be solved, like excess of solar power can be preserved and used during the night time. The most expensive constituent of a solar power system is the solar panel, on an average a homemade solar panel if built properly can run for a span of 20-25 years. While the one available are fairly pricey and do have guarantee of running for almost a lifetime.

Solar power systems have become a sizzling commodity in a very short span of time, due to the fact that fuel and utility costs are increasing. And as the technology is advancing, the usage of electricity is increasing. Over the last decade the use of electricity has increased ten-fold, as lot of appliances are invented to make life easier. In today’s world solar power system can be the best resource to generate electricity without any hazard to the environment over a long span of time. Also there are different types of solar power systems in the market today, the main three types are portable solar power system, stand alone solar power system and grid tie-in system.

A portable solar system is very fashionable nowadays, and it can be used anywhere and anytime, as it is easily to manage. A stand alone solar power system has become a popular choice for people choosing to run their homes through solar energy. It forms a huge device and completely covers all the appliance of any household. A grid tie-in system, is mostly used in factories to accumulate maximum energy and use it without increasing the pollution in the environment.

Photovoltaic effect was first discovered by a French physicist Antoine-César Becquerel back in 80s. While experimenting Becquerel observed that a photovoltaic effect was generated when a solid electrode was put in an electrolyte solution the voltage developed when light hit upon the electrode. But an actual solar cell was developed almost 50 years later by the technician Charles Fritts. Since then Solar cell is one of the most talked about technology always creating a stir as and when a new device or technology is developed surrounding solar cells.

Modern solar cells are essentially photodiodes closely build on a very delicate frame with a very huge light-sensitive area. photovoltaic cells are created from silicon. Silicon in its crystalline form has some very special chemical properties, but it is also true that silicon is a very poor conductivity. Hence, electricity is not easily absorbed by silicon. In order to overcome this defect the photovoltaic cell is doped with boron to work against the poor conductivity of silicon. Over the years the efficiency of solar cells has increased from a drastic 0.5% to almost 40%.

The photovoltaic effect, which effects the conversion of light into electricity, occurs in a 3 stage process. The photovoltaic cells are P-N junction photodiodes. The layer in the photovoltaic cell forms the N-type semiconductor, i.e. the N junction of photodiode, and then comes the sandwich form of P-N junction and finally the 3 layers form the P-type semiconductor.

Now in order to complete a solar cell two additional electrical contact layers are attached to attract the sun rays and convert them into solar cells. The process of creating solar cell is similar to that of silicon chips. The three layered solar cells are found to be the most efficient solar cells to the date.

Most solar cells are capable of producing electricity for the span of 20-25 years. Hence, the cost of a single solar cell is pretty high, as the process of creating crystalline silicon is expensive and time consuming.

Nowadays solar energy has become major consideration for architectural and construction companies around the world, in order to maintain the vision of green earth and reinforcing the effect of high utility costs in the economy. Today building design consists of plans embedding solar panels in the structure right during the creation phase of the building. Solar cells have proved to be the most efficient form of renewable energy resource without any side effects like pollution and toxic waste. Today the most important hazard of global warming, environmental protection and sudden climate change due to the imbalance of CO2 from the burning of fuels in the environment can be reduced with the use of solar energy.

Today the most significant problem with solar energy is the cost of solar cells, which has decreased over time but still not affordable to a normal household at some level. Some of the developing countries still have problems with generating funds to install solar projects.

Photovoltaic cells are created of silicon. When the cells are directed towards light a certain fraction of the silicon absorbs the light. This absorbed light is converted in electrical energy.

If you want to build your own cell there are some very inexpensive techniques. With the right information, almost anyone can create their own d-i-y solar panel. The most common and easy method is to closely attach a bunch of solar cells on a thin wooden frame. The basic tools required to conduct this project are as follows:

A thin wooden frame and other tools related to wood like saw, drill and a couple of screwdrivers.

A few solar cells and silicone caulk, you can use the regular ones available in the market used for sealing leaks and cracks in plumbing devices, as it keeps water from penetrating the area.

Some wires to closely connect the solar cells and other wiring devices like wire cutters, wire strippers, solders for soldering iron.

A thin glass panel to cover the wooden board and some wood glue to attach the glass with it.

Method for Building a Solar Panel:

First of all you need to cut the wooden frame in a rectangular shape, and then set the solar cells. There are a lot of solar cells available in the market now a days, you can either use the used one or get new ones from some green energy companies. Once you set the cells, glue them closely with the help of a silicone caulk. Also make sure the cells are fixed and the caulk is dried before taking the next. Once the solar cell frame is ready, wire the cells just around the silicone caulk to make it sturdier, as the solar cells in itself fixed with caulk form a very delicate board and the wiring will the cells together in a stronger way. Now fix the frame of solar cells on the wooden board. Just drill holes at the border and corners of the board and solar and attach them with the help of screws.

Finally cover the solar cells with a thin glass panel with the help of wooden glue, make sure it is of the same size as the wooden panel. Keep it aside for about 2 days and then you can take them out for testing.

In order to test the cells take the panel in direct sunlight and attach a voltmeter to it, you should be able to read around 18-20 volts if the process above is executed successfully.

So all in all building a solar panel is pretty much simple and a lot less expensive than people think it to be. The most expensive device in this construction is probably the solar cells, but given the results it provides the amount invested in it is easily compensated over the long run of electricity generated through this panel and thus reducing your day to day utility costs.

The word “solar” is derived from the Latin word for sun, which is the most powerful energy source. The solar energy travels through space to provide us with radiant heat and light. Solar energy forms one of the most widely accessible and affordable renewable energy on earth.

Solar Energy can be converted in electrical energy with the help of a solar generator. Solar generators has many benefits, today more and more people are realizing the power of solar energy. Even in schools students are encouraged understanding and creating solar generators as their science projects. People today use solar generators to be eco-friendly; some use them as an important back-up system that provides instant electricity in case of blackout or disaster. It is also used to reduce utility bills and sometimes in case of emergency at remote locations.

Solar generator is environment friendly as compared to other conventional diesel and gas as it produces no noise, it also does require any kind of motion to activate hence, the maintenance is minimal. And lastly it does not emit any kind of toxic waste. All of these result in clean and reliable source of energy that does not harm our environment and at the same time it is highly economical.

Solar generator is essentially a unit or a device that can generate electricity with the use of solar cells or photovoltaic cells. These devices store the solar power, so that the electricity is available round the clock. A solar generator generally comprises of a solar panel (i.e. a solar cell or photovoltaic cell), a battery and an inverter.

The solar panel is strategically mounted to capture maximum solar energy at different positions during a day. Once the panel is set, a deep cycle battery is attached to the panel, in order to store the collected energy. The battery must consist of a voltmeter in order to monitor the electricity usage. A pop up circuit can also be added between the terminal and the voltmeter.

The energy collected from the solar panel and stored in the battery will be DC. Most of electrical appliances work on AC. Hence, an inverter is necessary to convert the DC power stored in the deep cycle battery into AC. This simple design of solar generator makes is easy to maintain and maneuver.

Before purchasing a solar generator you should determine the use, as you’ll need to calculate the power required to run an appliance. This in turn will determine the size of the solar panel. Solar generators are available in different shapes and sizes. Large solar generators are very costly, smaller and portable solar generators are easily available in a few hundred dollars.

Solar generator is easier to manage; often people believe that enormous equipments are needed to install a generator. A solar generator needs only a few components for the homeowner to make earth pollution free. There are many varieties of solar generators available online, also the battery used in is rechargeable hence the cost may vary depending upon the size of your generator.
